Don't forget to check out my monthly photo blog www.itookphotos.blogspot.com.
In Melbourne and Sydney at the moment there are 2 great photography shows going on at the CCP and the ACP. The first is at the CCP by American artist Tayrn Simon. I remember not so long ago seeing a talk that she gave at the TED conference and being blown away by the photos and the back story behind them (the show is primarily about America and it's hidden places/things). If you get a chance go check it out. www.ccp.org.au. The second show is the best show I have seen at the ACP in Sydney for a long time. It is by photojournalist Stephen Dupont with photo's from the last 15 years that he has been travelling to Afghanistan. It is a fantastic exhibition of war and conflict images and uses the exhibition space to it's fullest, including blowing up contact sheets and including press passes etc. www.acp.org.au
The 5th season of 30 Rock is currently been shown on the screens in the states and so far I reckon it has just been ok. The fourth episode of the season was a show that they recorded live twice, one for the East Coast and one for the West Coast. A novel idea but a bit lame in funnyness. I never really thought Tracy Morgan, Tracy Jordan on the show, was that great, kinda the weak link but this article on him is funny, I like him a lot more now. www.nymag.com.
I have a photo on the cover of American author Kathleen Kent's new novel The Wolves of Andover. It was released a few days ago in America, of course you can buy it on Amazon if you like, and hopefully it does well. Her first book was a New York Times bestseller but who knows really. Check it out here www.hachettebookgroup.com.
Till next month thanks for taking the time to read , look or whatever you did. Cheers, Josh.

BOOK
I just finished reading Peter Temple's latest book Truth. The book came out a few months ago and has picked up a swag of awards and deservedly so. I never really read crime fiction but I may just start after reading this book. I kinda want to read it again and I never, never do that.

INTERVIEW
Full disclosure I did work at Inside Out Magazine for a while and I have worked with the man, but this interview with stylist Glen Proebstel is great. The man, I think, is the best interiors stylist that we have in this country and a nicer person you will not meet. Check out the interview here www.thedesignfiles.net.
MUSIC
So they have released the 'line up' for the Sydney Festival 2011 and along with a few interesting acts is the American musician Sufan Stevens (and he is playing at the Opera House). Tickets go on sale next week. Get your tickets here www.sydneyfestival.org.au. |
